Meet our Member of the Month for November, Victoria (aka Vicki Vegas)! Vegas is a ball of energy, even at 5 am and 5 foot tall ;). The progress she has made in strength and body composition is amazing, and she has her own dedication to thank! She made a commitment to the gym and never lets excuses get in her way. Congrats Vicki Vegas; keep killin’ it!
- When did you join Huntley Barbell?
February 2016. I really committed March 10th to making my gym time a habit of 3-5 days a week. And now I’m currently at the gym 4-5 days a week for the 5am class. It became very clear several months ago how important being committed 4-5 days a week matters. I’m actually mad/frustrated if something prevents me from being in the gym 4-5 days.
- Tell us a little about yourself.
I’m 46 years old (we don’t believe this for a second), married to my wonderful husband Don Suthers for 22 years. Have two amazing kids Joey 18 (Soccer Player) and Jessica 15 (Cheerleader) who both go to Marian Central High School. I manage a real estate office in the area, Realty Executives Cornerstone.
- What do you love about Huntley Barbell?
I love the atmosphere and camaraderie. From the moment I walked in I felt welcomed. I was a Groupon buyer trying CrossFit Boxes, Health Clubs, KettleBell Gyms, Boxing gyms. Tried 6 gyms in the area over the last 6 years with different types of Groupon offerings and never found one that quite stuck with me. I really like the fact no two days/WOD’s are the same at Huntley Barbell. It is important to me to feel challenged and motivated. I got bored with the other gyms or felt that the trainer gave up on my lack of range of motion or lack of coordination. Jeremiah never gives up on me, he knows how to challenge me and knows how to bring out my self-competitive spirit. Jeremiah ensures that every one of us feel like an “athlete” and that we are capable of doing so much more than we ever thought we could. This gym is truly his passion and I know great things are in store with the expansion coming up in December. I’m beyond excited!!!
4. What’s your favorite exercise?
I really enjoy all the exercises! It’s easier to tell you which ones I don’t like. LOL Man those Turkish Getup’s suck! And I have a love/hate relationship with the rowing machine. I never saw myself as someone who would be able to lift weights but I’m finding that I’m really enjoying it and it is very empowering!
5. What would you tell someone who is considering joining Huntley Barbell?
Come on in for a week trial! Just do it!!! I think the Huntley Barbell is perfect for someone looking to get out of their comfort zone, get away from cardio classes and the fashion statements of the larger gyms. Those who are looking for a really good trainer who cares about your form, your goals, your strengths AND your weaknesses. Huntley Barbell isn’t your typical CrossFit gym (we are not a CrossFit affiliate), its more (we do such a variety of exercises constantly working all the muscles). Jeremiah motivates and teaches us all how to achieve our goals, he knows what to say and exactly what to do to help inspire each one of us. Most importantly he takes the time with each athlete that walks into the gym no matter who they are or how much or how little they have been exercising prior to walking into the door. I truly feel if I can do it, so can you! So just do it…come in for a week trial. I promise you won’t regret it.
