• Meet Sam

Meet our Member of the Month for August, Sam! Sam makes no excuses when it comes to her training. When her work schedule changed over the summer, Sam is a social worker at a local school, she adapted  her personal schedule to ensure she could continue training (that meant the 5 am class was her only option!). She deadlifts a heavy bar easier than Harry Potter lifts a feather (Levioso!). Her smiling face and hard work is contagious. We love having you Sam!

    1. When did you join Huntley Barbell?
    – I joined Huntley Barbell around December of 2015

    2. Tell us a little about yourself.
    – I’m a social worker for Harvard Junior High and I coach freshmen volleyball for Harvard High School and Club Fusion. In my spare time I play co-Ed sand volleyball and slow pitch softball. My fiance and I moved to Huntley in December of 2015, which is what brought me into Huntley Barbell

    3. What do you love about Huntley Barbell?
-I don’t even know where to start…the workouts, the coach(es), the people. I haven’t had a negative experience at Huntley Barbell since I joined. I love the group classes most. In addition the gym being accessible 24/7 is a perk. No matter what your personal fitness goals might be, the classes are so motivating. Jeremiah spends time with every individual helping and driving us. I honestly feel like I learn something new about myself and fitness every time I walk into the building.

    4. What’s your favorite exercise?
-This is really hard. I can find something I love about each exercise and workout. If I had to choose, I love back squats, or squats in general. While I’m still new to back squats, I’m excited every Friday. In addition to back squats, I generally love reading what our WOD will be for that day. Our WODs are a great workout and I can tell my endurance has improved because of them. Keep in mind, they are always hard and you have to push yourself, I love it.

    5. What would you tell someone who is considering joining Huntley Barbell?

-I would say, “what are you waiting for?!” Seriously, leave your basic, boring franchise gyms and see what health and fitness is really about. I’ve learned so much about fitness and health that I can apply outside the gym. In addition, the coaches are knowledgeable in physical therapy to keep your body healthy.
